I have learned today that the RSPB has concerns about the impact on our Golden Eagles. Their response states amongst other things that:
1. The southern Scotland population of golden eagle is extremely fragile and vulnerable to extinction, emphasised by the undertaking of a multi-million-pound reintroduction project supported by the Scottish Government. This development directly threatens the aims and success of that project.
2. The collision risk is unacceptably high, and whilst this may not affect existing NHZ birds, it could have a significant negative impact on the existing bird on site, the reintroduced birds, fledged birds from existing sites or birds recruited into the NHZ population.
It would be sad if Moffat's hope to become the First Golden Eagle Town in Scotland was put at risk.
